Course Overview
Spanning only 50,000 square miles, England contains peaks, valleys, metropolises, agricultural hubs, and vast coastlines. These diverse
settings have inspired writers for centuries, cementing the English landscape into the minds of readers.
In this class we will study Virginia Woolf’s coast, Wordsworth’s Lake District, the Big Smoke as told by generations of writers, D H Lawrence’s beloved mining communities, and return home to East Anglia to understand how the land informs and inspires writers.
