Course Overview
Found in the same manuscript as Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Pearl is a medieval dream vision. It is an intricate, narrative poem in which a man in grief mourns his lost, irreplaceable daughter, his ‘Perle’. In this day school we will read sections of the poem closely,
exploring the elaborate use of form and language to think about the broader tradition of medieval poetry.
